New Passion, Or A Rather Old One Revisited

·

I’ve said before that I’ve lost my passion for anime a while ago. I still love the shounen artstyles from Ken Sugimori and Akira Toriyama, and how artists draw cute female characters (as well as cool dudes and monsters) but that’s about it these days. I should now add that I’ve lost the passion for pretty much anything in speculative fiction or fantasy. Or was I only interested in the aesthetics all along? I mean, these days, it’s hard for me to get hyped for any TV show, movie, or video game, since they either run together, or they don’t interest me visually or conceptually.

I’ve been dabbling in synthesizers lately, as I’m getting back into electronic music. I’m learning the ins and outs of each synth and VST I own (In fact, as I’m typing this, I’m trying to learn FM synthesis, so I can get that lead/bass sound from Claude Young’s “Changing Factors”). I’m also learning how to make old-school techno from Detroit, Berlin, and England, as that was the start to my journey in electronic music back in 2001. The ultimate goal here is to combine my love for cartoons and anime with my love for electronic music from the 90s and 2000s. I did it with “Mesmerize,” “Lucid Dub,” and “Nucleic Acid,” and I plan on doing it again.

I also want to “switch gears” in terms of content. I kinda want to make videos on Youtube about synths, technology, art, and many other things that don’t have anything to do with “nerd culture”. Of course, I’ll still draw, I’ll still draw and animate big booty bitches and have them bounce around the place, but I feel like that’s only one part of me.

Hopefully, I’ll manage to fully establish the identity of my brand either this year, or the next. Let’s see what trouble I can get into.
